Du'a for kids · Out and about

Du'a for entering the masjid

When entering the masjid we say “Allahummaf-tah li abwaba rahmatik” — “O Allah, open for me the doors of Your mercy” — and many families step in with the right foot first.

اللَّهُمَّ افْتَحْ لِي أَبْوَابَ رَحْمَتِكَ

Allahummaf-tah li abwaba rahmatik

“O Allah, open for me the doors of Your mercy.”

Good to know: Many people also say “Bismillah” and send salawat (blessings) on the Prophet ﷺ before this du'a.

For little ones

What it means

“O Allah, please open Your doors of kindness for me.”

The moment

When we say it

As we step into the masjid — many families teach the right foot first.

Teach it

How to teach it in 3 steps

  1. Step 1: Practise at your own front door: right foot in, say the du'a, big smile.

  2. Step 2: Mime opening two big doors with your hands on “abwaba rahmatik”.

  3. Step 3: Before your next masjid visit, ask your child to lead the du'a at the entrance.

Questions parents ask

Should toddlers come to the masjid?

Many masjids welcome little ones. Short visits, a quiet bag of books and this du'a at the door help them feel it is a special place.

Is there anything said before it?

Sending blessings on the Prophet ﷺ first is taught in Sunan Abi Dawud 465, and many people say “Bismillah” too. Families differ on details — ask your teacher.
