Du'a for leaving the masjid

When leaving the masjid we say “Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik” — “O Allah, I ask You from Your bounty” — and many families step out with the left foot first.

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ

Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik

“O Allah, I ask You from Your bounty.”

Good to know: Many people also say “Bismillah” and send salawat (blessings) on the Prophet ﷺ as they leave, before this du'a.

For little ones

What it means

“O Allah, please give me lots of Your good gifts.”

The moment

When we say it

As we step out of the masjid — many families teach the left foot first.

Teach it

How to teach it in 3 steps

  1. Step 1: Teach it as the “partner” of the entering du'a: mercy going in, gifts coming out.

  2. Step 2: At the door, left foot out, say it together, then put shoes on.

  3. Step 3: On the way home, ask: “What good gift do you hope Allah gives you today?”

Questions parents ask

What does “fadl” mean for a child?

Allah's extra kindness and good gifts — food, family, friends, fun and everything good.

How do we remember which du'a is which?

In: “open the doors of mercy”. Out: “I ask for Your gifts”. Practising them as a pair helps.
