Du'a for kids · Waking up & getting ready

Du'a before entering the toilet

Before going into the toilet we say “Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-khubuthi wal-khaba'ith” — asking Allah to keep us safe from anything bad. We say it outside the door, before stepping in.

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْخُبُثِ وَالْخَبَائِثِ

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-khubuthi wal-khaba'ith

“O Allah, I seek refuge with You from evil and from the evil ones.”

Good to know: Many families say “Bismillah” first. We say this du'a before going in, so the card belongs outside the bathroom.

For little ones

What it means

“O Allah, please keep me safe from anything bad.”

The moment

When we say it

Just before we step into the toilet — we say it outside the door, not inside.

Teach it

How to teach it in 3 steps

  1. Step 1: Put a small card on the outside of the bathroom door, at your child's eye level.

  2. Step 2: Pause together at the door, say it, then step in with the left foot.

  3. Step 3: Practise just “Allahumma inni a'udhu bika” first, then add the ending.

Questions parents ask

Should we say it inside the bathroom?

No — say it just before you go in. Most scholars teach that we don't say Allah's name aloud inside the toilet, which is why the card goes on the outside of the door.

Which foot goes first?

Many families teach the left foot going in and the right foot coming out. Families and madhhabs differ on details — ask your teacher.
