Helping-at-home chart for kids
Small children love real jobs. A helping chart with two to five age-right tasks — and a star to colour for each try — turns “help me” into “I helped!”. Pick the jobs below and print it free.

At the end of the week
Sit together and ask: “What did you try hardest at?” Praise the effort, not a score. Ideas:
- “I saw how hard you tried. That made me so happy.”
- “You remembered all by yourself!”
- “We did it together — you're a great helper.”
- “Even when it was tricky, you kept trying. MashaAllah!”

What to put on a helping chart, by age
Toys in the box, shoes on the rack, cup to the sink. One step at a time, and do it with them.
Setting the table, watering plants, making the bed (lumpy counts!), putting shoes away.
Folding laundry, sweeping, carrying a shopping bag, helping a younger brother or sister.
Using it gently
- Do each job together the first few times, then step back a little.
- Say thank you — “JazakAllahu khayran!” — every time, so helping feels like a gift.
- Keep it about effort: a lumpy bed still gets a star.
- Helping family is a good deed. Tell them so.
Questions parents ask
What chores can a 3-year-old do?
Putting toys in a box, carrying their plate or cup to the kitchen, putting shoes on a rack, wiping up a small spill and helping to feed a pet.
Should children be paid for chores?
That's a family choice. For under-eights, many parents keep everyday helping as part of being a family and save pocket money for later.
