Sunnah habits chart for kids

Little sunnahs suit young children because each one belongs to an everyday moment: eating, drinking, getting dressed and going to sleep. Choose three to five to practise this week and print a chart with your child's name.

At the end of the week

Sit together and ask: “What did you try hardest at?” Praise the effort, not a score. Ideas:

  • “I saw how hard you tried. That made me so happy.”
  • “You remembered all by yourself!”
  • “We did it together — you're a great helper.”
  • “Even when it was tricky, you kept trying. MashaAllah!”

What to put on a sunnah chart, by age

Ages 2–3

Bismillah before eating and Alhamdulillah after a sneeze. Say them together, every time, in a happy voice.

Ages 4–5

Add sitting down to drink, eating with the right hand and putting the right shoe on first.

Ages 6–8

Add the waking-up and bedtime du'as and salaam when coming home. Ask them to teach a younger sibling — teaching makes it stick.

Using it gently

  • Tie each habit to a moment you already have: meals, shoes, bedtime.
  • Sing it. “Sit, Sip, Smile” and “Every Bite's a Gift” were made for these moments.
  • Give the “why” in one sentence: we do it because the Prophet ﷺ did, and we love him.
  • When a sunnah becomes automatic, celebrate and swap in a new one.

Questions parents ask

What are easy sunnahs for kids?

Saying Bismillah before eating and Alhamdulillah after, eating with the right hand, sitting down to drink, starting with the right shoe, greeting with salaam, brushing teeth, and saying a short du'a at bedtime.

How many sunnahs should we practise at once?

Three is plenty for under-fives; up to seven for 6–8 year olds. Fewer habits means more wins — and more chances to praise.
