What's on the poster

  • 4 eating habits: say Bismillah, use the right hand, eat from the side near you, and leave food you don't like without saying “yuck”
  • 4 drinking habits: sit to drink, three sips breathing outside the cup, no blowing in the cup, and say Alhamdulillah
  • Bismillah and Alhamdulillah written in Arabic on the pictures
  • A hadith reference on every card, from Al-Bukhari 5376 and Muslim 2020 to Abu Dawud 3728 and Muslim 2734
  • A QR code to watch and sing “Sit, Sip, Smile”
Where the words come from

Sources

Qur'an verses are copied letter for letter from tanzil.net or quran.com, and du'as and hadith from sunnah.com. The reference is printed on the poster, with a transliteration and a simple meaning. Where schools of thought differ on small details, follow your teacher.

How to use it

For grown-ups

  • Hang it at your child's eye level near the dining table, so you can point to it during meals.
  • Pick one habit a week, such as sitting down to drink, and praise your child every time they remember it.
  • Count the three sips together out loud, “one, two, three”, taking the cup away from your mouth between each.
  • Play a mealtime spotting game: who can spot someone saying Bismillah or eating with their right hand first?
  • Print at 100% ("actual size") on thick paper, or laminate it for a busy wall. For a big classroom or masjid poster, use the 18 × 24 in PDF at a print shop.
