How to say Ha

Its name in Arabic

هَاء

Ha

Breathe out gently from deep down in your throat: h, as in 'hat'. Softer than ح (Haa).

Did you know? Ha changes its look more than most letters: round on its own, and with two little loops in the middle of a word.

Also written Haa, Ha'. Some books spell this Haa. On NoorHop, Haa is the throat letter ح, so ه is Ha.

Arabic letters hold hands with their neighbours, so ه changes its look a little depending on where it sits in a word. Tap a shape to hear the letter.

Short vowels

ha, hi, hu: Ha with harakat

Add a little vowel mark and ه becomes a sound you can say. Fatha on top says a, kasra underneath says i, and damma on top says u. Tap each one.

Coral = fatha (a), blue = kasra (i), green = damma (u). How harakat work →
