What's on the poster

  • When we do tayammum: there is no water we can find, or water would harm us; once we find water again, we use it for wudu
  • 4 numbered picture steps: say Bismillah, pat clean earth, wipe the face, and wipe the hands to the wrists
  • Qur'an 5:6 in Arabic with its meaning, and how the Prophet (peace be upon him) did it: Al-Bukhari 338
  • A note that some schools of thought pat twice and wipe the arms to the elbows

Where the words come from

Sources

Qur'an verses are copied letter for letter from tanzil.net or quran.com, and du'as and hadith from sunnah.com. The reference is printed on the poster, with a transliteration and a simple meaning. Where schools of thought differ on small details, follow your teacher.

How to use it

For grown-ups

  • Hang it next to your wudu poster in the classroom or masjid, so children see that Allah made worship easy.
  • Practise with a tray of clean sand, so children feel how lightly to pat and how to blow off the extra dust.
  • Talk about when tayammum is for, such as a long trip with no water or being very poorly, and that we go back to wudu as soon as we have water.
  • Schools of thought differ on the details; follow your teacher.
  • Print at 100% ("actual size") on thick paper, or laminate it for a busy wall. For a big classroom or masjid poster, use the 18 × 24 in PDF at a print shop.
