Du'a for leaving home
When leaving home we say “Bismillah, tawakkaltu 'alallah, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah” — going out with Allah's name and trusting Him to look after us.
Teacher review under way.
“In the name of Allah. I trust in Allah. There is no might and no power except with Allah.”
What it means
“With Allah's name I go out, and I trust Allah to look after me.”
When we say it
At the front door, as we step outside — for school, the shops or the park.
Learn the word: Bismillah
How to teach it in 3 steps
Step 1: Put a card on the inside of the front door, at child height.
Step 2: Teach it in three parts and add one a week: “Bismillah” — “tawakkaltu 'alallah” — “wa la hawla…”.
Step 3: Make it the last thing before the door opens: shoes on, du'a, out we go!
Questions parents ask
We're always rushing in the morning. Any tips?
Say it while putting shoes on, or as you lock the door. A door card means nobody has to remember the words under pressure.
Is it okay to say just “Bismillah”?
Yes, “Bismillah” is the first step. Add the rest gradually as your child gets older.
