Du'a when you see something lovely
When we see something lovely we say “Masha'Allah, la quwwata illa billah” — remembering that every good thing happens because Allah wills it.
Teacher review under way.
مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ، لَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ
Masha'Allah, la quwwata illa billah
“This is what Allah has willed; there is no power except with Allah.”
What it means
“Allah made this lovely thing happen — all the power is Allah's!”
When we say it
When we see something lovely — a beautiful garden, a new baby, a friend's great drawing, or our own nice things.
Learn the word: MashaAllah
How to teach it in 3 steps
Step 1: Tell the Qur'an story of the man with two gardens (Surah al-Kahf), who became proud instead of thanking Allah.
Step 2: Play “MashaAllah spotting” on a walk: whoever spots something lovely says it first.
Step 3: Use it to praise others' work too — it turns admiration into thanks to Allah.
Questions parents ask
How is this different from just “MashaAllah”?
“MashaAllah” on its own is the everyday expression. The full phrase comes from the Qur'an (18:39) and adds “all power is Allah's” — perfect for our own blessings.
Can we say it about our own things?
Yes — that's exactly the lesson of the story in Surah al-Kahf: thank Allah instead of feeling proud.
Sources: Qur'an 18:39
