Jumu'ah for kids: making Friday special
Jumu'ah (Friday) is the special day of the week for Muslims, with a congregational prayer at midday in place of Dhuhr. Families make it special with a bath, clean clothes, sending blessings on the Prophet (peace be upon him), Surah Al-Kahf and extra du'a — and children can join in with a little Friday routine.

Why is Friday special? (for kids)
Friday is called Jumu'ah, and it is the special day of the week for Muslims.
At midday, people gather at the masjid to listen to a short talk called the khutbah and to pray together.
We get clean, wear nice clothes, send blessings on the Prophet, peace be upon him, and make lots of du'a.

Sending blessings on the Prophet ﷺ
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ
Allahumma salli 'ala Muhammad
“O Allah, send blessings on Muhammad”
Muslims send blessings (salawat) on the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) often, and especially on Fridays. This short version is perfect for little ones.
Try saying it ten times together on Friday morning — on fingers, on the way to school, or while you brush hair.
A Friday routine for kids
- Ages 2–4: bath and “Friday clothes”, salawat on fingers, a Friday story at bedtime.
- Ages 5–6: help choose a kind deed for the day, listen to part of Surah Al-Kahf, visit the masjid when you can.
- Ages 7–8: come to Jumu'ah when possible, sit through the khutbah quietly, and make their own Friday du'a list.
Taking kids to Jumu'ah
- The Friday prayer is required for grown-up men who are not ill or travelling; women and children are welcome to attend.
- The khutbah is listening time — no talking, even whispers. Practise “quiet listening” at home first.
- Go early, sit near the back with little ones, and bring the quiet masjid bag.
- Read our masjid manners for kids together before you go.
