Tips for the letter

Saying and writing Waw

How to say it

Make your lips into a little circle and say w. After a damma it makes the long oo sound, as in noor.

Don't mix it up

و has the same tail as ر, with a little round head on top.

Hear Waw and its picture words on the letter Waw page.

How to use it

For grown-ups

  • Every row starts on the right. A small sticker on the right-hand margin is a great reminder.
  • Say the sound each time: “Waw… w”.
  • Trace the model letter with a finger first, following the arrows, then use a pencil.
  • Use a thick crayon or triangular pencil for little hands — and stop while it's still fun.
  • Print at 100% ("actual size"). Ink-saver line art is the default, so colouring in is part of the fun.
