Tips for the letter

Saying and writing Daad

How to say it

Press the side of your tongue against your upper back teeth and say a full, deep d with a round mouth. It's one of the hardest Arabic sounds — take your time.

Don't mix it up

Same shape as ص — ض has one dot on top.

Hear Daad and its picture words on the letter Daad page.

How to use it

For grown-ups

  • Every row starts on the right. A small sticker on the right-hand margin is a great reminder.
  • Say the sound each time: “Daad… a heavy d”.
  • Trace the model letter with a finger first, following the arrows, then use a pencil.
  • Use a thick crayon or triangular pencil for little hands — and stop while it's still fun.
  • Print at 100% ("actual size"). Ink-saver line art is the default, so colouring in is part of the fun.
