Tips for the letter

Saying and writing Kaaf

How to say it

Lift the back of your tongue and say k, as in 'kite' — lighter and further forward than ق (Qaaf).

Don't mix it up

Kaaf has a shape of its own — look for the little squiggle inside it.

Hear Kaaf and its picture words on the letter Kaaf page.

How to use it

For grown-ups

  • Every row starts on the right. A small sticker on the right-hand margin is a great reminder.
  • Say the sound each time: “Kaaf… k”.
  • Trace the model letter with a finger first, following the arrows, then use a pencil.
  • Use a thick crayon or triangular pencil for little hands — and stop while it's still fun.
  • Print at 100% ("actual size"). Ink-saver line art is the default, so colouring in is part of the fun.
