Tips for the letter

Saying and writing Noon

How to say it

Touch your tongue behind your top teeth and hum through your nose: n.

Don't mix it up

On its own ن is a deep bowl with one dot. At the start or middle of a word it looks just like ب, ت and ث — only the dots tell them apart.

Hear Noon and its picture words on the letter Noon page.

How to use it

For grown-ups

  • Every row starts on the right. A small sticker on the right-hand margin is a great reminder.
  • Say the sound each time: “Noon… n”.
  • Trace the model letter with a finger first, following the arrows, then use a pencil.
  • Use a thick crayon or triangular pencil for little hands — and stop while it's still fun.
  • Print at 100% ("actual size"). Ink-saver line art is the default, so colouring in is part of the fun.
