Tips for the letter

Saying and writing Laam

How to say it

Touch the tip of your tongue behind your top teeth and say l, as in 'lamp'.

Don't mix it up

Laam is like a tall alif with a hook at the bottom.

Hear Laam and its picture words on the letter Laam page.

How to use it

For grown-ups

  • Every row starts on the right. A small sticker on the right-hand margin is a great reminder.
  • Say the sound each time: “Laam… l”.
  • Trace the model letter with a finger first, following the arrows, then use a pencil.
  • Use a thick crayon or triangular pencil for little hands — and stop while it's still fun.
  • Print at 100% ("actual size"). Ink-saver line art is the default, so colouring in is part of the fun.
