Tips for the letter

Saying and writing Ra

How to say it

Flick the tip of your tongue once against the bump behind your top teeth: r. One quick tap, not a long roll.

Don't mix it up

ز is ر with one dot on top. و has the same tail, with a round head.

Hear Ra and its picture words on the letter Ra page.

How to use it

For grown-ups

  • Every row starts on the right. A small sticker on the right-hand margin is a great reminder.
  • Say the sound each time: “Ra… a quick, tapped r”.
  • Trace the model letter with a finger first, following the arrows, then use a pencil.
  • Use a thick crayon or triangular pencil for little hands — and stop while it's still fun.
  • Print at 100% ("actual size"). Ink-saver line art is the default, so colouring in is part of the fun.
